Research interests of Dr. Cohen includes investigations of both standard and experimental pharmacological therapies, such as novel immunomodulatory agents, as well as studies analyzing quality of life and the economics involved in the diagnosis and treatment of inflammatory bowel disease. He has been Principal Investigator and Co-investigator for more than 50 research projects in his field. Dr. Cohen has authored or coauthored more than 100 articles, abstracts, reviews, books, book chapters, and audiotapes primarily devoted to Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis
David T. Rubin, MD

Dr. David Rubin specializes in the treatment and assessment of digestive diseases. His clinical interests include inflammatory bowel disease and high-risk cancer syndromes. An active researcher, Dr. Rubin began studying virtual colonoscopy as a screening tool for colorectal cancer in 1997. His current research interests include causes and preventive medicine for cancer in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), unique measures of inflammation and improving outcomes of IBD treatments. Dr. Rubin is also investigating the clinical application of the complex genetics of IBD and methods to communicate this information to patients and families
Stephen Hanauer, MD

Dr. Stephen Hanauer is a world leader in the treatment of inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD).
He is the past chair of the Immunology, Microbiology and Inflammatory Bowel Disease Section of the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA). Dr. Hanauer is the recipient of the AGA's Fiterman Award for Clinical Research. He previously served as a member and chair of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Gastrointestinal Drugs Advisory Committee and currently chairs the International Organization for Inflammatory Bowel Disease. Dr. Hanauer is a member of the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America's National Scientific Advisory Committee.
Ira Hanan, MD

Dr. Ira Hanan’s clinical interests include inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s disease & ulcerative colitis), gastrointestinal bleeding, colorectal cancer screening, gastro-esophageal reflux, and irritable bowel. Dr. Hanan’s major academic role is to serve as a clinical educator in the Gastroenterology Fellowship Training Program, teaching gastrointestinal endoscopy, diagnosis and management of general gastrointestinal diseases, including IBD, IBS, gastrointestinal bleeding, among others. He also serves as advisor to fellows pertaining to clinical gastroenterology.
Laura Harrell, MD
Assistant Professor of Medicine
Dr. Laura Harrell’s clinical interest is inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s disease & ulcerative colitis). Dr. Harrell’s areas of interest in research include the role of the enteric microbiota in inflammatory bowel disease, and the identification of biomarkers predictive of disease prognosis and of response to various therapies used to treat IBD. She is a member of the American Gastroenterological Association and the American College of Gastroenterology among others.
